Castle Tower

Impressive granite outcrop in ironbark and bloodwood forest

Access

The park is located 30 kilometres south of Gladstone off the Bruce Highway. To reach it, travel from Gladstone to the Inveragh railway siding. Turn left and follow the dirt road and you will eventually arrive at the park.

Features

The vegetation of Castle Tower features dry stunted ironbark and bloodwood. The main species involved are the narrow-leaved red ironbark {Eucalyptus crebra), the spotted gum (E. maculata) and the forest red gum (E. tereticornis). The peaks of Castle Tower also have grass trees (Xanthorrhoea sp) growing there. A walk along Grevillea Creek in the early morning will give you a chance to see some of the birds found in the park as they feed on the various flowering plants. There are many deep granite pools and waterfalls in Grevillea Creek and these provide a suitable swimming place during the summer months. Castle Tower was first gazetted in 1961 and has been increased in size in recent years.
